AI Doesn't Replace Empathy

There's a lot of chatter about AI. Everywhere you look, someone has something to say about it. How to learn it, how to navigate it, how it's robbing us of our critical thinking, the list goes on.
So, what do we think at RiseHR?

AI doesn't replace one of the most important things we need in the workplace: empathy.
Empathy Is Still the Skill That Matters Most
According to an HBR article, executives rank empathy as one of the most important capabilities in their employees. So if that's the case, why should we be cautious about diving into AI in the workplace?
AI Can Sound Empathetic. It Can't Act.
Even though AI appears to empathize with you through its tone and language, it can't act.
HBR describes empathy as a skill that's "built systematically through repeated exposure to emotional nuance, conversation, and the interpersonal work of navigating tension and ambiguity." This remains human, for now.
The Skill You Lose When AI Does the Talking
When we rely on AI to give us the answers, or provide a script for a difficult conversation, it robs us of developing the skills needed to navigate the messy and uncomfortable moments that help us grow and develop empathy.
The Old-Fashioned Way Still Works
AI can answer a difficult question in a millisecond, and it might even help us work faster. But empathy is still developed the old school way. Through conversations, disagreements, through good old-fashioned "peopleing." At least for now.
